I bought this reasonably priced high-gain antenna to help boost up the signal to the monitor/receiver in my wireless security system. Unbeknownst to me, my new wireless cameras had to have a direct line of sight to the monitor, or they lost signal. Even through interior house walls, the 14dB of signal strength coming out of the cameras could not be detected by the wimpy original receiver antenna. What's great about this studly antenna is that I didn't need to mount it outside on the roof of my house in order for it to "see" my wireless cameras, which are mounted on opposite ends of my property (this antenna is over 3 feet tall, so it is definitely big). I can mount the antenna on an inside wall, out of sight, and now I don't have to route the low-loss coax cable (that I bought separately) outside. Yay! Although Alfa recommends having this beast in direct line of sight of your transmitters, it might not be necessary, depending on your application. The 12 dBi of antenna gain that this antenna has is plenty to get the job done.
